KALACHA CULTURAL FOOD AND MUSIC FESTIVAL 2018

 “Sustaining our cultural values for Prosperity”
Kivulini Trust in partnership with Waso Trusland Project and ISID is delighted to announce the 7th edition of Annual Kalacha Cultural Food and Music Festival to be held in Kalacha Marsabit County; Northern Kenya between the 14th and 17th December 2018.

The Four-day event will bring together pastoralists, fisher folk, hunter gatherer, metal artisans, agricultural community, local schools and our partners from Arbore community among others from as far as Southern Ethiopia, to reconnect, share and celebrate their cultural and natural heritage to promote biocultural diversity, social harmony for sustainable development. The event further offers the participants a platform to showcase their diverse cultural heritage, interact and learn from each other’s experiences and aspirations.

Participating Kenyan communities includes the Boran, Burji, Daasanach, El-Molo, Gabbra, Garri, Konso, Meru, Rendille, Samburu, Sakuye, Sidama, Somali, Turkana and Waayu communities all dwelling in extensive geographical region of Northern Kenya, that includes Isiolo and Marsabit Counties.

Kalacha where the event is held is located approximately 700km north of Nairobi City in North Horr Constituency of Marsabit County. The town stands at the south-eastern corner of Chalbi desert on a permanent oasis surrounded by scenic doum palm trees and acacia woodland. Kalacha Cultural center, the venue for the festival is situated about 3 KMs to the north-west of Kalacha town along the Kalacha-North Horr road.

The festival enjoys significant support from Marsabit and Isiolo county governments and other development actors both national and international.

Kindly note that, participants are expected to meet their travel, food and accommodation costs apart from the invited community groups.
